With a fine exhibition of fast bowling Dale Steyn finished the match with a figure of 10 for 108 runs and helped South Africa beat India in the first test match at Nagpur. The Indians were beaten in all departments by the South Africans in this test match. With this loss, the Indian top position in the ICC ranking is endangered.

He scored his 46th century in test cricket but was soon bowled by Harris. There was hardly any resistance displayed by other Indian batsmen. They succumbed to pressure on the fourth day and lost the test match by an innings and 6 runs.

Hashim Amla's double ton, Dale Steyn's impressive bowling, Sehwag and Sachin's tons were the highlights of this first test match. India skipper Dhoni who had never tasted a defeat in his captaincy reign said, "We were completely outplayed in all departments of the game."
