Disappointing four key players Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir won't be featuring in the whole tour. MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman will play in the test series. Abhinav Mukund and Badrinath are included in the test squad.

If we look at the overall scenario, still RCB, CSK, MI and KKR look favourites to make it into the next stage. But as we all know the uncertainty of this game, we can even see a striving team like KTK or KXIP toppling one of four in points tally to reach play offs.

Kochi Tuskers manages a big total on the board as they scored 178 at the loss of 7 wickets. Thanks to the openeres McCullum and Jayawardene, the innings got an ideal start. An opening partnership of 93 runs in T20 cricket is undoubtedly good. McCullum fell for 32 whereas Jayawardene scored 76.

Only other big contribution came from Owais Shah who scored 23. As a reply to this big total, Punjab has maintained the required run rate. Gilchrist fell early for 9. Valthaty was bowled by Singh for 17. But the man in form Marsh has anchored the innings well with Karthik.

Punjab is currently on the second last position of the points tally where as Kochi is on 6th position. With very few matches to go, teams are striving hard to accumulate as many points as possible to make into the final four.

Update on Sri Lanka's tour of England 2011

Here is another update on Sri Lanka's tour of England. There had been a lot of speculations about when would the Sri Lankan players featuring in IPL join the national team for the preparations of England tour. Atleast for the captain, Tillakaratne Dilshan the date is fixed now.

He will leave Indian Premiere League a bit early and join Sri Lankan team in England on 11th of May. He will feature in the tour match against Middlesex. He will miss the last 4 matches and also the knockout matches if Royal Challengers Bangalore manages to get into the knockouts. 

Sri Lanka plays Middlesex on 14th May. Then they play England Lions from 19th May.

The 1st test begins from 26th May at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

The home of cricket, The Lord's hosts the second test from 3rd June while Rose Bowl finally gets an opportunity to host a test match from 16th June.

ICC Rankings gives us an indication of team's standings in various forms of cricket which includes Test and One Day Cricket. Let us have a look at the current ICC Team Rankings for Test and ODI cricket:-

The table above shows:-

India is far ahead than South Africa in the Test Rankings. India is scheduled to play West Indies and then England this year in test cricket. So they have a good opportunity to keep this lead alive.

Similarly in ODI cricket, Australia leads India by 8 points. The lead of Australia was good enough in advance that even if India won the World Cup, they couldn't manage to topple Australia in the ODI rankings.
